CBN's David Brody: Americans Tired of Dems' Shutdown Tactics

Monday, 14 Oct 2013 05:37 PM

The American public is getting fed up with the Obama administration's refusal to cut a deal with Republican lawmakers, according to David Brody, the chief political correspondent of CBN News.

"This might be a classic case of overplaying their hand. They believe that they are winning politically on this. They look at the polls, they read Gallup, and they say, hey, we're winning," Brody told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"They may be technically winning in the short term, but when you start to close down World War II memorials and when you start close down parts of Mount Vernon or Mount Rushmore and things that are sacred and important to people … at some point, it becomes a case of diminishing returns. How far do you go to prove a point?"

Brody said the case of a Catholic priest being denied entrance to perform Mass at a U.S. military base was overkill.

"Memo to the Obama administration: don't tick off Catholics. I mean come on. Look, this goes across party lines to a degree. We're not just talking about those conservative or those pesky conservative evangelicals, now you're talking about mainstream Catholics, mainstream potentially Democrats, Republicans," Brody said.

"You're now getting to dangerous territory if you're the Obama administration because you're not necessarily saying, forget about them, they're a part of the Republican base, now hold on, this could be part of your base as well. As a matter of a fact, it is part of your base and so this is why this is politically disastrous for the Obama administration."
