Tuesday's revelation by the Smoking Gun that Al Sharpton worked for years as a confidential informant
for the FBI paints the political activist-turned pundit as a hypocrite, says Washington Times Columnist Charles Hurt.
In his Tuesday column, Hurt wrote that Sharpton made his fame "vilifying the government, police and authority in general as a bunch of hateful, white rapists out to destroy blacks and the poor. Now we come to find out you were in cahoots with whitey all along."
But worse than Sharpton's hypocrisy, Hurt told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV, is that the liberal news media holds Sharpton up as a trusted news source despite his checkered background and his lack of on-camera talent.
Sharpton hosts "Politics Nation" on MSNBC.
Hurt said Sharpton is so bad as a TV host that MSNBC's judgment and ethics should be questioned.
"The way MSNBC rolls is they're just like, 'well, yes, he can't read the teleprompter, but isn't that just how black people read?' Why aren't they called out for being racist for this stuff?" Hurt asked.

It isn't that Sharpton is unlikeable, but his checkered past and his lack of on-camera talent should have made MSNBC executives think twice before giving him a show, Hurt said.
"If you ever talk to him, he's a very funny guy, he's very appealing, he has that shtick about, 'oh, I'm a following Christian, but I'm struggling.' All that stuff is very appealing to somebody," Hurt said.
"I don’t know why the left, I don’t know why Democrats -- he's such an embarrassment to Democrats and he's such a discredit to Democrats. I don't get why they give him so much credibility."
