Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay says the trial he went through made him a better person, but he wouldn't want to go through it again.

A Texas appeals court on Thursday overturned DeLay's 2010 conviction on laundering campaign money, saying the evidence used to convict him was "legally insufficient."

DeLay called his prosecution "a concerted strategy by the left to bring me down." It began in 1996, he said, Democrats announced they were "going to get me."

DeLay was force to resign his position as majority leader when he was indicted in 2005.

Asked by host Sean Hannity whether America has criminalized political differences, DeLay said he believes it has – at least for those on the right.

"It's what the left does, to be honest with you," DeLay said. "If they can't beat you on the political arena, then they come and try to defeat you personally and try to completely destroy you, bankrupt you, put you in a grave and then dance on your grave."

Left-wing billionaire George Soros and liberal Democrats funded much of the case, DeLay said. "It was a concerted strategy by the left to bring me down."

Friends have told him after the reversal that he's had a huge burden lifted, but he disagreed.

"I didn't have a burden on my shoulders. I gave my burden to the Lord and he carried it," DeLay said. "I don't want to go through it again, but I praised him every day that I was going through it. Just made me a better person and gave me the strength and the peace and the joy that I needed to go forward."

DeLay doesn't expect the same amount of coverage of his repeal that his prosecution and conviction received, but he said they owe him "a lot of retractions" because their stories were based "straight out of George Soros' book."

"I imagine a lot in the 'mainstream media' are not feeling very good right now," he said.
