Rick Ungar, co-host of the Sirius XM radio show "Steele & Ungar,'' is an unabashed liberal, but he's convinced President Barack Obama dropped the ball on the Veterans Administration healthcare scandal.

"I think the scandal is obscene," Ungar told Dennis Kneale, guest host of "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"But the real scandal is that the president has been in office for nearly six years, he campaigned on this in 2008 . . . When I heard his speeches about what he was going to do to finally fix the VA, that had an impact on me.

"Six years later, he's sending his top guy to go and do yet another report. This is unacceptable. You cannot be an extraordinary country if this is the way you treat your veterans." he said Tuesday.

The scandal revolves around the alleged existence and cover-up of secret waiting lists for chronically ill veterans, which may be responsible for at least 40 deaths.

Economist Peter Morici, a professor at the University of Maryland, who appeared on a Newsmax panel discussion with Ungar, agreed with him that the system has dramatically failed.

Story continues below video.

"[Obama's] been a terrible CEO . . . The Democrats have created an environment in the federal bureaucracy such that it can't function," Morici said.

"Every conceivable workers right that could ever be applied in the private sector has been imposed on federal managers. It's virtually impossible to get anything done.

"This is a clear example, and this is why the government needs to do less overall because it can't get its assignments done. It can't hand in its homework.''
