The "smoking gun" email that appears to show a Benghazi smokescreen by the White House is one of the biggest cover-ups of the Obama administration, according to conservative radio host Kevin Jackson.

"Everybody knows this is a cover up," Jackson told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"If the truth be told, this is one of the biggest cover ups in Obama's administration."

Emails obtained by the non-profit group Judicial Watch point to then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice being coached to explain to the press that the Sept. 11, 2012 Benghazi attack which killed four Americans resulted from outrage over an anti-Islamic video. That explanation was later discredited.

"[The White House] could have easily just said, look guys, we screwed up, we got four people killed, unprecedented, we understand, but we're going to fall on the sword," Jackson said.

"But no, they cover it up and they use email, one of the easiest things to get."

Story continues below video.

Jackson, who is author of  "The BIG Black Lie," made his comments during a panel discussion with economist Peter Morici, a professor at The University of Maryland.

"The administration is stonewalling it about a lot of things. It's not just this, it's stonewalling … [on] the IRS scandal and so forth," Morici said.

"But it's not so easy for them to just take the hit and say, all right, we screwed up, four people were killed because it would do great harm to the candidacy of Hillary Clinton for president.

"So the stakes are enormous and they're going to do just whatever they have to do and given that we have a president that's not running for reelection, they can get away with it."
Jackson also called out the mainstream media for not looking into the Benghazi story with a critical eye.

"The media was complicit. If it had a Woodward and Bernstein type of media environment, we would have been through this already," Jackson said, referring to Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the Washington Post reporters who broke the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.
