The measure that Congress passed to solve the problems at Veterans' Affairs Administration hospitals is too expensive and it will not work, says North Carolina Rep. Walter Jones.

"I was one of two Republicans who did not vote for that bill because the cost is $17 billion and it does not do what needs to be done," Jones told J.D. Hayworth on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV Friday.

"We've just named a new director," he explained. "The director should have had some days, and weeks and months to figure out where the problems are and then ask for the money to fix the problem."

"You keep throwing money at problems but you don't have the solutions and money is not always the solution," he added.

Congress passed the VA bill on July 31. The Senate confirmed the Veterans Affairs' Administration Secretary Bob McDonald, the former CEO for Procter & Gamble Co.

"Director McDonald should have a few months to make recommendations to Congress, and the American people of how we're going to fix the problem," Jones explained.

"But we just threw money at it and I don't know, I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't think it's going to fix the problem," he added.
