Investigative journalism blog Project Veritas has pulled off a brand new video sting — this time duping Mariel Hemingway and Ed Begley Jr.
The Hollywood stars are approached by a man named "Muhammad," who offers a $9 million deal for an anti-fracking movie, while hiding that its funding comes from Mideast oil sources says Project Veritas' James O'Keefe as told to "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
Playing "Muhammed,'' Project Veritas investigator Josh Tickell, says "If Washington, D.C. continues fracking, America will be energy efficient, and then they won't need my oil anymore.''
Story continues below video.
A video purports to show both Begley and Hemingway accepting the funding and agreeing to hide their source.
O'Keefe, the founder of the Project Veritas — which first gamed prominence with the release of videos of workers at ACORN offices in 2009, said Hemingway, granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway, later said "some absurd things,'' in trying to explain herself.
"She said that she didn't know the guy was in oil when [on] the tape clearly he says, 'I'm in oil,'' O'Keefe said.
"She was just caught red-handed … we've caught her in a lie and it's an obvious lie.... She clearly in the video knows that he's from the Middle East, knows that he's trying to help his bottom line.
"Mariel even says.... 'I'll be your secret American wife and no one beyond this table will know that we're accepting this Middle Eastern oil money,' and then she goes on Fox News and says, 'I didn't even know he was from an oil company,' so I don't know how it can possibly get more hypocritical than that.''
