Iran is helping the Kurds fight the terror group ISIS — but it's unlikely this strange-bedfellows scenario will have lasting benefits, prominent Iranian author Marc Benhuri said Friday.

"The Iranian regime is an absolute totalitarian regime. Many Iranians refer to them as Islamist terrorists' occupier of Iran," Benhuri told Rick Ungar, guest host of "The Steve Malzberg Show," on Newsmax TV.

"The only reason that they are helping the Kurds is to help the Shia in Iraq. They want to be close to us and their rhetoric toward the United States is not going to cease. It is getting worse than getting better."

"In the final analysis, our aim should be to help the Kurds – to actual autonomy. This group really deserves autonomy of their own."
