Chris Christie has a "convenient'' reason for not endorsing Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, the GOP candidate challenging New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, says Steven Malanga, a senior editor of City Journal and senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.
"Christie has a convenient excuse, if you will, and that is that it is 2014 there are Republican governor races around the country,'' Malanga said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"[Wisconsin Gov.] Scott Walker is in a really tough race, there are Republican senatorial opportunities, so his point is, we're going where we think we have the most opportunity.''
Christie, the governor of New Jersey and chairman of the Republican Governors Association, called Astorino's bid against Cuomo a lost cause.
But Malanga believes Christie may have spoken to soon in the light of a just–launched federal corruption probe Cuomo faces.
"Clearly with what's going on with Cuomo right now, if there's ever an opportunity it would be in the aftermath of this,'' he said.
