The scales are still tipped in favor of the Republican Party regaining control of the Senate, according to Kyle Kondik, director of communications at the University of Virginia's Center for Politics.
"Republicans are pretty clearly halfway there to a Senate majority," Kondik said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"If you look at the whole Senate map, there are three really good opportunities for Republicans to pick up seats in Montana, South Dakota, and West Virginia."
And yet, it could come down to a horse race, he said.
"You've got a big group of seats, six held by Democrats, that are all super close: Arkansas, Louisiana, Iowa, North Carolina, Alaska, and Colorado, Kondik said.
"The polls in those states all indicate that the top two candidates are within maybe a point or two of each other. Then you've also got Kentucky, which is the one Republican-held seat that is pretty close."
