President Barack Obama, a foe of intervention in Iraq since his days as a senator, is driven by his "anti-American, pro-Muslim" mindset to let Iraq slide into the hands of America's enemies in the region, conservative author David Horowitz told Newsmax TV on Monday.

"It's very clear he wants America to retreat," Horowitz, author of "Take No Prisoners: The Battle Plan for Defeating the Left," told "MidPoint" host Ed Berliner.

Asked what the president would have to gain by deliberately losing Iraq, Horowitz said U.S. retreat in the face of Middle East turmoil embodies the "radical" political vision that guides Obama.

"The politics is one of taking America down, destroying our borders, disregarding and actually destroying our Constitution," said Horowitz, who also called Obama "a nihilist."

"The left is nihilistic," said Horowitz, adding, "They're not builders, they're not creators, and they're about destroying."

Horowitz cited the administration's response to the plight of non-Muslim Iraqis under siege by the violent Sunni militia group ISIS.

"Look at how long it took him to attempt to save Christians," said Horowitz. "There are hundreds of thousands of Christians that are being slaughtered and driven from their homes in Iraq, and it's been going on for a long time.

"This president — who pretends to be a Christian, just the way he pretends to be an American — has said nothing about it."

Horowitz said Obama's policies toward Iraq have been consistently anti-American.

"He's been running against the war in Iraq since he was a senator and [planned] to end the war in Iraq as quickly as possible," said Horowitz. "He claimed no role in the [failed] negotiations over the Status of Forces Agreement," which would have kept a stabilizing force of U.S. troops in Iraq.

"He's capitulated in every war, in Afghanistan as well," said Horowitz.

Horowitz said Obama's antipathy toward U.S. interests also extends to Israel.

"He stopped military aid to Israel," said Horowitz, alluding to a dispute over arms transfers to Israel during the latest violence in Gaza.

"What does that do?" he said. "It just helps Iran, Hezbollah, and the Muslim Brotherhood, which are already armed. This is a disaster. People don't realize what a catastrophe the Democratic Party and the Obama presidency are."
