Iranian Analyst: Iran Not Trustworthy in Iraq

Iran has no place solving the Iraq crisis, says Banafsheh Zand, an Iranian political analyst and human-rights activist.

"Anybody . . . who thinks the Iranian regime has anything to offer — that they would actually be good partners to deal with this problem — is really misinformed and doesn't want to deal with the reality of Iran,'' Zand told "The Steve Malzberg Show'' on Newsmax TV.

"Iran has actually been one of the main instigators of this problem,'' she said Tuesday.

That's because of the historical and religious animosity between the two countries, she explained.

"[The U.S. isn't] peeling back the layers of animosity and really dealing with the bottom-line history of this situation,'' she said.

"They're not addressing the fact that the Iranian regime . . . has been the main instigator of this fight, and they basically don't want to deal with the fact you can't put a Band-Aid on a bullet wound.''

In recent weeks, the al-Qaida splinter group ISIS has stormed through Iraq, taking over city after city.

Various remedies have been considered, from ground troops to drone strikes, but Iran's offer of help isn't the answer, Zand said.

"The Iranian regime's intention, its entire goal and focus from day one, has been to establish the Islamic pole,'' she said.

"They consider themselves as the proxy of Muhammad . . . and they have to prepare the world for the arrival of the Mahdi, of their version of the Messiah.

"So, this is all a part of that in order to quash the Sunni and bring the Sunni under the banner of the 12th imam, and the Shia . . . there's no dealing with these people in any way other than to basically let what is there to play out, however ugly and horrifying it sounds — and it will be ugly and horrifying.''
