Florida state Sen. Alan Hays wants students in the Sunshine State to learn real U.S. history, he tells Newsmax TV.

That's why he has introduced a measure that would require the state's middle and high school students to watch the movie "America" by Dinesh D'Souza, he told hosts J.D. Hayworth, John Bachman and Morgan Thompson on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"What I want to do is to make sure that the students in Florida have an accurate portrayal of history," Hays said.

"I truly believe that what they're learning now is not completely accurate," he said.

"This movie puts the falsehoods out there, and then it shows the rebuttal to those falsehoods in a very professional way and in a very intellectual way," the Florida Republican explained.

The Florida state senator explained that his "bill will require that every eighth-grader and every 11th-grader in Florida see this movie."

However, there is an opt-out clause, and students can be excused from seeing the movie if "their parents send a note asking for their child to be excused from it."

Hays faults "educational system failure" as the reason President Barack Obama got elected.

"His occupancy of the White House is an indictment of our educational system all across America," he explained.

"We need to get back to teaching the truth," he added. "We need to remove politics from the educational system. We need to teach history as it happened and teach it truthfully, showing the whole story."

"That's what this movie does quite well," he added.

Hays says he plans to see his bill become law.

"I don't file bills for spectacular reasons or to make statements," he explained. "I file bills for success, and I certainly plan to see this one across the finish line and get the governor's autograph."
