Rep. Allen West says President Barack Obama hasn't "jump-started anything," despite claims that his economic policies have helped create new jobs and put the country back on the road to recovery.
Speaking on Fox News' "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" Tuesday, the Florida Republican said all the president has done is waste "almost a trillion dollars" on a failed stimulus plan and programs that have created "a dependency society."
"You haven't jump-started anything," West declared, saying he would welcome the opportunity himself to debate Obama on his job performance over the past four years.
"As a matter of fact, all you did was you wasted almost a trillion dollars of American taxpayer money, and you continue to see yourself as a venture capitalist, using American taxpayer money for failed companies that you want to try to pick based upon your own policies." he added.
West, one of the most conservative members of Congress, is in a tough re-election battle of his own with Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy to represent the state's redrawn 18th District. The race is considered a toss-up at the moment, according to Real Clear Politics.
West, a frequent guest on Fox News programs, said he believes the debate coming up on Thursday night between Vice President Joe Biden and GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan will show voters once again just out wrong Obama administration policies have been for the country. He said the administration's failure to address the Medicare and Social Security issues is just one of the failures he expects Ryan to highlight.
"All I want Paul Ryan to do is to tell the truth," West told Van Susteren. "I want Paul Ryan to say that the actuaries of Medicare and Social Security have said that in 2024, Medicare goes bankrupt. And Joe Biden can sit up and try to criticize Paul Ryan, but to do nothing means that we lose the Medicare program for our seniors."
"So Paul Ryan just needs to talk about the facts and watch Joe Biden run scurrying like rats off the Titanic," West added.
