Scott Walker Begs Off Potential VP Talk

Fresh from surviving a hard-fought recall campaign, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker shied away Wednesday from showing any interest in seeking national political office.

On Tuesday, Walker became the first U.S. governor to overcome a recall despite an intense campaign by Big Labor to unseat him. GOP insiders now are touting Walker, who won what is expected to be the second most important political campaign of the year, as a future candidate for national office -- possibly even vice president.

But during an exclusive Newsmax interview Wednesday, Walker downplayed any such aspirations.

“Hey, in my case, I went through a year and a half of unbelievable attention and focus and attack from many of the nation’s largest special-interest groups,” said Walker. “I’m really 100 percent focused right now on Wisconsin, and really haven’t had any time to think about anything else, and probably won’t for some time.

“So I’ll leave that to the pundits,” he said. “I’m just going to stay focused on helping Wisconsin get better.
