A Twitter message showing support for Ukraine has come under fire by Republicans as yet another example of President Barack Obama's weak foreign policy.
The latest round of attacks came after State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki sent this tweet late Thursday:
Psaki's message was a retort to Russia using the hashtag
, which helps users find related tweets, to further its agenda on social media, Fox News reports. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has its own Twitter account.
But her message brought immediate attacks from Republicans.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz responded late Friday:
And former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told Fox on Saturday that "the thought that somebody would come at him with 160 characters is absolutely terrifying to Vladimir Putin."
Huckabee, who also is a Fox contributor, is also a possible GOP candidate for the White House in 2016.
But Obama administration supporters of "hastag diplomacy" told Fox that social media allows for a fast, unfiltered way of reaching Ukrainians and others around the world — particularly amid the fast-spiraling events in the region.
