Billionaire Donald Trump has been asked to do robo-calls for GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in several key swing states, sources close to the campaign tell Newsmax.

Trump has agreed to do the calls to help turn out the vote in Ohio, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Florida, Newsmax has learned.

Trump has also asked to do some campaign stops on Romney’s behalf in the week before Election Day, but the billionaire businessman and host of the hit TV show “The Apprentice” has scheduling conflicts he is trying to work out, sources say.

Romney’s election effort could benefit from Trump’s help in several important demographics.

Trump is especially popular among blue collar voters. At one point last year, he led all potential Republican presidential candidates in the polls, including a survey released in April 2011 by Public Policy Polling showing Trump with a 9-point lead in a potential race for the GOP nomination. Trump never officially joined the race and endorsed Romney in February of this year.

Trump has already been a big figure in the presidential campaign. Obama made him an issue in campaign TV ads and the presidential debates — sometimes sarcastically.

Bu the issue Trump has championed most — that China is getting the best of the U.S. in its commercial relationship — has become a mainstay of the Romney campaign through the candidate’s public comments and TV ads.

Trump was the first to attack China over its currency manipulation.
In his book “Time to Get Tough: Making America #1 Again” and in an earlier interview with Newsmax, Trump asserted that the People's Republic should be considered more of an adversarial competitor, subject to significant import tariffs in response to its currency manipulation.

Trump insists the United States has been selling out to China, losing jobs and sending billions of dollars to the communist nation.

Romney has sounded the same theme, saying that if elected he will on his first day in office label China a currency manipulator so that the communist giant will stop running “roughshod on many industries in this country.”

Romney also said in an interview with Fox News that Trump shares his vision that nothing has been done to stop China from taking away U.S. jobs.

“Presidents have looked at it, have complained about it, but really haven’t taken action to stop China from taking away our jobs,” Romney said.

“I’m making it very clear to the Chinese: That’s where we will go if they continue the practices they are pursuing right now.”

Trump told Newsmax in a January 2011 interview that America should not employ “diplomats to negotiate with the Red Chinese, because we’re dealing with people who truly are not only smart, they’re great natural negotiators. They’re not our friends. They’re looking to strip us of everything they can strip us of.

“I would say go out and get the great business leaders. We have great business leaders, great minds, tough, smart, brilliant. Use those people to negotiate with these countries.”
