Donald Trump says that the famously loopy signature of Jack Lew proves he is “an unbelievably secret person,’’
according to Politico.
Trump said he believes Lew —tapped by President Barack Obama to replace Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary — will be confirmed.
But he said he is astonished by Lew’s handwriting, which contains multiple loops and is difficult to read.
“It’s extremely secretive, and it shows he’s a very, very secretive person, unbelievably secretive, which of itself is interesting,’’ Trump said on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.’’
“I think he has to develop a new signature, that’s one thing I can tell you, because that signature is amazing when you look at it,” Trump added.
Trump also said he is concerned about Lew’s 2011 testimony to Congress about Obama’s economic plan.
“The Republicans haven’t found a good way to stop things and I’m not sure necessarily [Lew] should get stopped,’’ he said.
“This was the president’s choice, the president did win the election, the president does have the right to make appointments and this was one of those appointments.
“But what he told Congress was probably false and probably knowingly false.’’
Lew is credited as the architect of the deal that stoopped a government shutdown in the spring of 2011.
But, according to the non-partisan blog
ThinkProgress.org, “that deal hoodwinked Republicans into thinking they had brokered $100 billion in spending cuts.’’
Instead, Lew structured it “so that most of the cuts were to money that wasn’t ever going to be spent anyway. The result: real spending cuts were only about $30 billion,’’ the blog said.
