Donald Trump says he's not yet convinced that President Barack Obama was really born in America and believes that his challenge to Obama to release his college and passport records will help settle the matter.

"I would like to have him be transparent. We know nothing about our president," Trump said, noting that there is "tremendous skepticism" out there about Obama's birthplace, despite the fact that he has released his Hawaii birth certificate.

"I would be the happiest person in the world if he would give his records and if his records would be beautiful because it would take all doubt away," the billionaire real estate mogul and TV celebrity said Wednesday on Fox News' "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

Earlier Wednesday, Trump issued a challenge to Obama to release his college transcripts and passport travel information by Halloween in return for a $5 million donation from the billionaire to the president's favorite charity.

But the president seemed to reject the offer during an appearance on NBC's "Tonight Show" Wednesday night, joking with host Jay Leno that Trump's unceasing effort to portray him as a non-U.S. citizen goes back to their "constant run-ins on the soccer field" when they were both growing up together in Kenya.

"He wasn't very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America, I thought it would be over," Obama jabbed at Trump and his claims the president was born in Africa.

Still, Trump shows no signs of letting up. He told Van Susteren that Obama "is probably the least transparent president in the history of the country" and releasing more details about his life would help put questions to rest.

"I'm viewing this [$5 million challenge] not as a negative thing; I'm viewing this as a positive, what we're doing, positive even for the president," he said. "Truthfully, I think it would be a great thing for him and certainly for the country, because there is so much anger about this."
