An Iranian military chief says his nation has targeted "centers in America" for attack that would destroy the U.S. "from within" if it launches an attack on the Islamic Republic.

Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami, a Revolutionary Guards commander, made the threat in a television interview in which he noted, "America, with its strategic ignorance, does not have a full understanding of the power of the Islamic Republic,"reports The Daily Caller.

"We have recognized America’s military strategy, and have arranged our abilities, and have identified centers in America (for attack) that will create a shock. We will conduct such a blow in which they (America) will be destroyed from within," Salami reportedly said.

The Daily Caller cited unspecified reports noting that terrorist operatives tied to Hezbollah, a strong ally of Iran, have already infiltrated the U.S. with specific targets in mind.

The threat came in response to Secretary of State John Kerry's warning last month that if Tehran fails to live up to its six-month agreement to suspend nuclear development efforts, then the U.S. would be "prepared to do what it would have to do" militarily to halt the country's nuclear weapons program, The Times of Israel reported.

"The American military option does not make a difference for us, and they can use this option, but they will have to accept the responsibility of devastating consequences," Salami said in his television comments, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency FNA.

He continued, "The US can have different scenarios against Iran, including air, missile and limited ground incursion.

"All these scenarios have been identified, all possibilities have been studied and we have complete intelligence superiority in all these cases and operational strategies," he boasted.

Salami's comments also echoed those made by chief Revolutionary Guard Commander Maj. Gen. Mohammad Jafari, who also warned two weeks ago in response to Kerry's comments that a direct confrontation with America is the “strongest dream" of Islamists revolutionaries around the world.

"Your threats to revolutionary Islam are the best opportunity. Muslim leaders for years have been preparing us for a decisive battle. Do you know how many thousands of revolutionary Muslims at the heart of the Islamic revolutionary groups around the world are awaiting for you to take this (military) option from the table into action?” Jafari teased.

In effort to ease crippling international economic sanctions, Iran told the U.S., Britain, Germany, China, France, and Russia that it will reduce uranium enrichment to five percent and end its previous production of 20 percent enriched uranium. As part of the 6-month agreement, Iran also allowed international nuclear inspectors in to visit its nuclear sites.

The western powers are due to meet again with Iranian negotiators about a permanent, long-term solution to the nuclear problem in Vienna Feb 18th.
