Likely Republican nominee Mitt Romney says President Barack Obama deserves a failing grade for his job performance so far — both domestically and when it comes to foreign policy

“Oh, an F, no question about that . . . across the board,” Romney said when asked to grade the president during a CBS News interview Thursday night.

The Republican presidential candidate did credit Obama for his pursuit and killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, but he said the president had failed in every other category — in both foreign and domestic policy.

“His positions in foreign policy have not communicated American strength and resolve,” Romney said, referring specifically to what he called a failure in Iraq to secure “what had been so won there, with a status of forces agreement.”

He also blamed Obama for problems in the Middle East. “The Arab Spring has become the Arab Winter. That’s hardly a success,” he said.

“And, of course, domestically, it’s hard to call — what now — 39, 40 months of unemployment above 8 percent, a success,” Romney added. “They said by now it would be in the 6 percent range, and by now it is not.”

The Obama campaign shot back, arguing that the president assumed office when the economy was in freefall and has pursued policies that have begun to turn things around.

The campaign also dismissed Romney's foreign policy grading as simply “misguided” and “misinformed.”
