Toronto Mayor Rob Ford: Don't Forget to Turn Your Clock 'Back'

When daylight savings time begins, the old adage says to "spring forward, fall back" — unless you're beleaguered Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.

In the hours before the rest of the nation was to turn their clocks ahead an hour, Ford sent a reminder through his Twitter page Saturday telling his followers that "Daylight Savings Time starts this evening, turn your clocks back and change batteries in the smoke alarms," reports The Toronto Star.

His Twitter followers were quick to point out a couple of mistakes in the tweet. For one, daylight savings time begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, not in the evening hours on Saturday, and time skips ahead an hour, not back one.

"Or, if you're NOT on crack, move them ahead... RT @TOMayorFord Daylight Saving Time starts this evening, turn your clocks back," said follower Barbara Haynes, in a reference to the mayor's admission that he has smoked crack cocaine in the past.

"Also, call 911 if your clock doesn’t work. RT @TOMayorFord: Daylight Saving Time starts this evening, turn your clocks back," tweeted Noah Love, the director of product development and a writer for the Canadian National Post.

At around 10 p.m., a corrected tweet appeared on Ford’s Twitter page to replace the initial wrong one.

The gaffe may not be Ford's fault alone, reports Canada.com, a website representing several of the nation's largest newspapers.

On Friday, Tom Beyer, who was Ford's longest-serving staffer, quit his job after being a receptionist for more than three years, saying he was leaving under "doctor's orders."

One of Beyer's duties was to provide information being served up through Ford's Twitter account, and the website reports that it's not clear if Ford is actually sending his own tweets after Beyer's resignation, or if someone else told followers to turn their clocks back overnight.
