Conservative leader Ralph Reed, the chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition, told Newsmax on Wednesday that the Obama administration’s decision to drop the ban on women in combat shows “liberal social policy has trumped sound military practice.”
Democrats are touting the move as a way to open up hundreds of thousands of new job opportunities for women. Reed emphasized that “full equality for women in the workforce is a goal we all share.” But he added the administration should consider other priorities as well.
“While we generally defer to the Pentagon when it comes to military matters,” Reed said in a statement, “putting women in combat situations is the latest in a series of moves where political correctness and liberal social policy have trumped sound military practice.”
He added that “combat presents unique and mitigating challenges and requirements, and combat readiness must always be the first priority for the military.”
