Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is seeking re-election and has asked state GOP officials for their support, several RNC sources told CNN on Friday.

"He is reaching out to members about his plans to run for re-election,” one committee member told CNN. “He enjoys deep support on the committee, and I expect him to be re-elected with overwhelming support. “At this point, no one else is making any efforts to contact RNC members about challenging Priebus.”

"As of now Reince wins,” another RNC member added. “Folks like him, and he is escaping most of the blame game. And I am not sure anyone else really wants it. If governors get behind someone that could change things. But right now, it is Reince."

Priebus was the former head of the Wisconsin Republican Party. He came to the RNC two years ago –and the committee was mired in debt. He is credited with stabilizing its finances after the stormy tenure of former chairman Michael Steele.

The committee will meet in January to elect the chairman, CNN reports.
