Bill O'Reilly's inability to secure firebrand Texas Sen. Ted Cruz as a guest for his show ended Tuesday — and O'Reilly used the opportunity to give his guest some advice.
O'Reilly has noted in the past that Cruz, R-Texas, didn’t respond to invitations to appear on "The O'Reilly Factor,
" though he regularly appears on other Fox News Channel programs. But O'Reilly last week defended Cruz
for trying to move his party further to the right and attempt to become its leader – even as many other Republicans have criticized his efforts to defund Obamacare.
Perhaps that swayed Cruz.
Nevertheless, O'Reilly wasn't content to let Cruz simply restate his arguments, noting at times, "You know you're on 'The Factor' tonight," and cutting him off with, "We know that."
O'Reilly told Cruz that he and other Republicans need to take their case to the American people,
since polls still show most blame the GOP for the government shutdown.
Cruz said he is doing that, but that the mainstream media will always repeat White House talking points and portray Republicans as the villains.
"You guys should hold a press conference. You, (House Speaker John) Boehner, and get four of five other Republicans," O'Reilly said. "You gotta break it down and make it easier. The press … can't interpret your position.
"You gotta sell it, Senator," he continued. "You gotta sell it to the folks who are watching football, dancing, singing, juggling, texting … You got to SELL IT."
