President Obama is losing Jewish support at an alarming rate, according to the latest poll from the American Jewish Committee.

The annual survey found that only 45 percent of potential Jewish voters approve of Obama's job performance, a sharp decline from last year when 57 percent approved. About 48 percent of respondents disapprove of the president's performance.

And why? It appears the economy is to blame. A whopping 60 percent of the Jewish community said they disapprove of the way the president has handled the economy, as opposed to 37 percent who say he's done a good job.

Another steep drop comes over his handling of the Israel-Palestinian relationship: only 40 percent approve, down 15 percentage points from last year.

That's bad news on the heels of Obama's speech at the United Nations, and just as Palestinians asked the U.N. to recognize their territory as an independent state.

Obama has taken a beating over the past year from Israeli supporters after voicing support for a Palestinian state based on pre-1967 border.
