House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy ripped President Barack Obama Tuesday night for paying inadequate attention to the budget.
McCarthy quipped during an appearance on Fox News' "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" that the president spends more time filling out his draw sheet for the NCAA basketball tournament than he does on the budget.
"How can a president not want to balance the budget? How does he forget what he said? One of his first goals in the first four years was to cut the deficit in half. Now he doesn’t care. He doesn't even produce a budget," The California Republican told Van Susteren.
Obama's budget will "probably" be released during the week of April 8, two months late, White House press secretary Jay Carney said Tuesday.

"I'll bet you this,” McCarthy said. “I bet you he spends more time filling out his March Madness brackets than he does writing a budget. There’s no excuse why he can't . . . I think he avoids it for political reasons.”
As for the college basketball tournament, Obama has made his picks public every year since he took office. He has also appeared on ESPN to discuss his picks. His re-election campaign even held an online contest for tournament predictions last year.
