Tim Scott: Don't 'Rush to Judgment' Over NRA's Armed Guards Proposal

By Newsmax Wires   |

Senator-designate Tim Scott, R-S.C., says Americans should not rush to judgment over the National Rifle Association’s proposal to put armed guards in every school.

When asked about it on CBS’ “Face the Nation” Sunday, the replacement for retiring GOP Sen. Jim DeMint said, “I think the president has just established a committee to take a serious, holistic look at what we need to do as a nation to make sure that our kids are safe,” according to The Washington Post. “To rush to judgment, I think, is a bit premature.”

Vice President Joe Biden heads the committee, and Scott said he’s eager to see its findings.

“I think after we have the committee’s report, we should take a very serious look at whatever it takes to keep our kids safe at school,” he said. “We don’t know what that is yet, and we’re just finishing the week of so many funerals. We should continue to pray for the family members.”

Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., noting that he owns a semi-automatic weapon, was questioned on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday whether gun control alone would be effective, The Hill reports.

“I own an AR-15. I've got it at my house. The question is, if you deny me the right to buy another one, have you made America safer?” Graham said. “My belief is that this is a problem where you try to get mass murderers off the street before they act, by better mental-health detection. . . . And I do believe better security in schools is a good place to start.”
