Newt Gingrich: Sebelius Worse Liar Than Nixon

Newt Gingrich accused embattled Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday of being a worse liar than disgraced former President Richard Nixon.

The charge — which the former House Speaker delivered in a biting tweet — came Wednesday morning as Sebelius delivered testimony on the disastrous rollout of the new Obamacare health insurance website before the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Sebelius' testimony was her first appearance before Congress since the Oct. 1 debut of HealthCare.gov, the federal website that was set up to enable Americans to buy insurance.

But Republican and Democratic lawmakers used the hearing to grill Sebelius on claims of canceled insurance policies and website malfunctions.

Sebelius has been under fire for the Obamacare rollout problems — with a number of lawmakers calling for her firing.

"I apologize. I'm accountable to you," Sebelius said during Wednesday's hearing. "I am committed to earning your confidence back."

Sebelius famously went on "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart in the days following the HealthCare.gov website introduction, lauding its user-friendliness even as complaints of glitches and complications began surfacing.

"Maybe she's just lying to me," Stewart wondered.

Nixon, the nation's 37th president, is recalled most infamously as the only president ever to resign from office. He stepped down in 1974, halfway through his second term, rather than face impeachment over his efforts to cover up illegal activities by members of his administration in the Watergate scandal.
