Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s insistence that the U.S. government had "absolutely nothing to do with" the “disgusting and reprehensible” anti-Islam movie that touched off violent demonstrations has been complicated by the revelation that the film’s producer was a government informant.

Producer Nakoula Basseley Nakoula became an informant after his 2009 arrest for bank fraud, according to The Smoking Gun.

Nakoula provided federal prosecutors with a detailed account of the fraud operation and fingered the alleged head of the operation. In return his prison sentence was reduced.

The disclosure could further fuel conspiracy theories in the Muslim world asserting that the American government was behind the movie “Innocence of Muslims,” which President Obama has flatly denied.
