Dick Morris claims a video commentary posted on his website Wednesday is the “real rebuttal” to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address.

In the clip, Morris, a political analyst and author, rips apart what he calls a “fundamental contradiction through the entire speech,” saying the specifics the president proposed would make the generalities “impossible to achieve.”

“He spoke about the importance of regenerating the economy, and then he spoke about increasing federal spending and borrowing and taxation, all of which will nullify the goal he says he seeks to achieve,” said Morris, who supported Mitt Romney in 2012 and predicted he would achieve a landslide victory. Fox News, where he made regular appearances, later opted not to renew his contract.

In Tuesday’s address, Obama called for measures that included mandatory preschooling and a hike in the minimum wage to $9 per hour.

“The micro-steps he proposed will ultimately produce a bill that makes it impossible for the American economy to recover,” Morris said.

“It’s like someone who says, ‘I’m going to free myself of debt but in the meantime here’s my shopping list; I want to buy these 20 or 30 things.’ And ultimately the debt . . . offsets all the positive, the job from the things on the shopping list.”

Morris did, however, have some praise for the president’s stance on immigration reform. “He did indicate he supported legislation . . . where, to get citizenship you would have to go to the back of the line in your country and wait until your turn came,” he said. “That was a pivotal point and it’s very important Obama made that.”

But Morris went on to chastise Obama over his remarks on the other flashpoint of the day — gun control — saying, “He had the gall to talk about Newtown and the horrific massacre and omit the one step that would stop them, which is a uniformed police officer in every school.”

“Background checks are important, but it was this guy’s mother who bought the gun,” he added, referring to Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza. “What is needed . . . is to put the cops in the schools.”

Returning again to the economy at the end of his commentary, Morris said of the president, “His rhetoric will ring hollow as it becomes clear the economy is not recovering but instead is headed back down again.”
