Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says Hillary Clinton would be a "spectacular candidate on the Democratic side" if she decides to run for president in 2016, but he also likes some on the Republican side.

Bloomberg was responding to a question from CBS's Bob Schieffer in an interview aired Sunday on "Face the Nation."

"She is a quality person. She is also a great American," Bloomberg said when asked about remarks made by GOP operative Karl Rove questioning whether Clinton suffered brain damage in a 2012 fall.

Don't vote for Clinton if you don't like her policies, Bloomberg said, adding, "I thought his remarks just were outrageous and over the pale."

But he also likes former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on the Republican side because they all have executive experience.

Bloomberg eschewed any suggestion that he would run for president himself.

"If I thought I could win it would be something to consider," he said.

Bloomberg, once a Republican, finished his 12 years as mayor as an independent. There aren't enough people willing to drop party loyalty to vote for an independent, he said.

And as a fiscal conservative and social liberal, Bloomberg doesn't see himself running either as a Republican or a Democrat.

Besides, he said, he likes to actually do things rather than just "pontificating, promising and then never delivering – or delivering in ways that it's never going to work."
