Mitt Romney will score a vital victory in Florida, a pollster for one of the state’s most influential newspapers confidently predicted Saturday after his latest survey gave the Republican challenger a six-point lead.

“I’m pretty convinced Romney’s going to win Florida,” said Brad Coker who conducted the Mason-Dixon poll for the Miami Herald. “Will it be five points? Maybe. Will it be three points? Possibly.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a recount … I don’t think we’re going to have a recount-race here.”

Mason-Dixon’s poll showed Romney gaining more than half the vote as he leads President Barack Obama by 51 percent to 45 percent, largely unchanged from a similar poll in October. The survey of 800 likely voters was conducted from Tuesday to Thursday.

Coker told the Herald that Romney is receiving more crossover support from Democrats and has a heavy lead in the more conservative northern parts of the state.

He is also winning “handily” among men and non-Hispanic whites.

The Herald said Obama is relying on southeast Florida for support and on Sunday will be joined by Miami rapper Pitbull during an appearance in Hollywood, Fla.

Early voting in the state is due to end at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Latest figures show far more Democrats turning out than Republicans. “Obama’s strategy in Florida is turnout, turnout, turnout,” said Coker. “He’s not really tailoring or changing his message just for Florida.”
