In conjunction with his new book “An American Son,” Sen. Marco Rubio is taking on an American president.

Possible vice presidential pick Marco Rubio isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to what it will take for the Republicans to defeat Barack Obama.

Marco Rubio, who is currently promoting his new book “An American Son,” told Newsmax in an exclusive interview that Obama’s campaign strategists will go negative right out of the gate.

“They cannot run on the record, so they’re going to want this election to be about anything else,” Marco Rubio said.

“Every week they will roll out some other straw man that they’ll try to bring up, just to distract from the president’s record.”

Marco Rubio strongly believes Mitt Romney’s best chance of defeating the incumbent president is to keep hammering his record.

He says the facts show that unemployment is higher, the economy is slower, home prices are lower, and the debt is $5 trillion larger than the day Obama took over.

“This is the Obama record and he has to run on that record,” Marco Rubio states.

“The question in 2012 is, are you better off today than you were four years ago when President Barack Obama was sworn in as president? For the vast majority of Americans, the answer is no.”

Regarding Romney’s chances of winning in November, Marco Rubio says the fact that he ran before makes him a much more formidable opponent.

“Mitt Romney is someone who has been successful in both politics and business,” says Marco Rubio.

“He understands how the economy grows. He understands that growth and prosperity are not the result of government, it’s the result of our people — that’s why I’m so confident in 2012.”

Marco Rubio is currently planning a swing-state summer bus tour to promote his new book “An American Son.”

The Marco Rubio book tour will begin in Florida with stops scheduled in Georgia, South and North Carolina, and Virginia.

Topics in the new Marco Rubio book include his plan to build a strong America, how he rose to national prominence, his message of empowerment and optimism, and more.

Marco Rubio says a return to conservative values and the nation’s founding principles will put America back on the road to prosperity.

“It’s one of the reasons I’m a Republican — because I know America is different. And I know America is better than any other society in human history.”
