A day after The New York Times fired Executive Editor Jill Abramson, the 60-year-old was seen in a photo practicing her new hobby: boxing.

Abramson's daughter, Dr. Cornelia Little Griggs, posted a photo to her Instagram account Thursday of her mother wearing oversized boxing gloves, workout clothes, and a New York Yankees hat while she hit a punching bag.

Abramson, who in 2011 became the first female executive editor at the newspaper, was relieved of her duties by Publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. on Wednesday. The reason, he claimed, came down to a "management" issue.

"I chose to appoint a new leader for our newsroom because I believe that new leadership will improve some aspects of the management of the newsroom," Sulzberger said, according to a Politico report. "This is not about any disagreement between the newsroom and the business side."

Subsequent reports have emerged that the firing may have been related to an issue of pay and Abramson's management style.

The New Yorker's Ken Auletta said Abramson had recently found out that her salary and pension benefits in her roles as the paper's managing editor and executive editor were lower than Bill Keller's, who she replaced in each position. Auletta also wrote that Abramson was hard to work with at times.

"'She confronted the top brass,' one close associate said, and this may have fed into the management's narrative that she was 'pushy,' a characterization that, for many, has an inescapably gendered aspect," Auletta wrote.

Sulzberger promoted Managing Editor Dean Baquet to the executive editor role.
