Sen. Lindsey Graham has denounced President Barack Obama's foreign policy statements in his State of the Union speech, warning "the world is literally about to blow up."

According to Roll Call, the South Carolina Republican told reporters following the speech, "The world as I know was not remotely described by the president." He added, "Syria is a contagion."

In his remarks to the joint session of Congress Tuesday night, the president pledged "to keep the pressure" on a Syrian regime that murders its own people, and to "support opposition leaders that respect the rights of every Syrian."

Obama also vowed to veto any new sanctions against Iran while talks under the six-month agreement with Tehran aimed at ending its ability to produce a nuclear weapon are continuing.

But Graham, referring to Syrian President Bashar Assad, said, "Explain to me what happens if the Syrian conflict goes on another year and Assad continues to win.

"Iraq is disintegrating. The whole region is moving toward chaos, and we're doing nothing. We're talking about limiting drones," Graham continued.

Turning to Afghanistan, he also warned against a complete pull-out of U.S. forces as scheduled at the end of the year.

"I hope he will leave a residual force in Afghanistan [so] they can do the job, because if he doesn't, it will fall apart at a faster pace than Iraq," the senator said.

Graham has been highly critical of Obama's foreign policies in the past, especially in the Middle East. He claimed earlier this month that the interim nuclear deal with Iran was "like Swiss cheese, it's got holes all in it."

The senator has also criticized the president for failing to act quickly enough to help Syrian rebels, especially the Free Syrian Army, which he said has led to an infiltration of rebel groups into the country backed by al-Qaida. He warned that if al-Qaida is not stopped in Syria it could result in Jordan being overrun by Islamists within a year.
