Louis Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam leader, attended a dinner party hosted by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on his visit to New York earlier this week, according to news reports.

Farrakhan, 80, attended the private gathering with a group of Nation of Islam members and security guards Tuesday night at the One UN Hotel, where the Iranian delegation was staying, Fox News reports.

Earlier, Rouhani had addressed a gathering of the United Nations General Assembly.

In a speech hours after President Barack Obama addressed the world gathering, Rouhani pledged Iran's willingness to engage immediately in "time-bound" talks regarding its nuclear intentions, but offered no new concessions and repeated many of Iran's grievances against the United States and the West.

In fact, on Tuesday night, Obama was hosting a party just blocks away at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel at the same time as the Iranian dinner party, Fox reports.

Farrakhan and his group were seen piling into cars outside the hotel around 10 p.m., Fox reports. Pedestrians were stopped while the cars sported lights, sirens, and New Jersey license plates.

Others attending the Iranian party were German Deputy Foreign Minister Peter Florin, who was elected president of the general assembly on Tuesday.

Last year, Farrakhan dined with Rouhani's predecessor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, during a session of the general assembly, Fox reports.

Like Ahmadinejad, Farrakhan has also blamed the death of Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi on the American and European governments. He said the governments viewed Gadhafi as an "impediment" to their access to natural resources in Africa.

In addition, Farrakhan has charged that the American government wanted to see black leaders, like himself, go away.
