D'Souza Releases Trailer for Upcoming Film 'America'

Dinesh D'Souza, who was recently indicted for excessive campaign contributions, has released a trailer for his upcoming documentary "America," following the success of his film "2016: Obama's America."

D'Souza says in the trailer that "America" is a movie about patriotism, "but it's not a 'rah, rah' patriotism that uncritically celebrates America."

The patriotism on display in the film, he explains, is according to the definition offered by conservative political philosopher Edmund Burke, who said "to love our country, our country must be lovely."

In other words, D'Souza adds, "true patriotism is loving your country not just because it's yours, but because it's good."

He says he created the documentary in response to the leftist ideology "that America is a society that is based on theft."

D'Souza asserts that this idea is "the presumption of leftist politics, of Democratic, progressive politics."

According to the documentary filmmaker, those on the left would say that stealing and plunder are defining features of American history: "We stole the country from the Indians, it was their land, and the white man took it by force. We stole the labor of the African Americans to build the country, at least the south. We stole half of Mexico in the Mexican War."

And this is also the explanation the left offers to explain our current foreign policy — to take oil from the Middle East.

D'Souza said that the point of the film is "to effectively answer and debunk" these charges.

The film is being co-produced by Academy Award-winning producer Gray Fredrickson along with Best Picture Oscar winner Gerald Molen, known for the movie "Schindler's List."

"2016: Obama's America" was released in the midst of the 2012 presidential campaign and became the second-most successful documentary behind Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Molen, who also produced "2016," told Newsmax that he thought the indictment against D'Souza is payback for the documentary because it was critical of President Barack Obama, adding that he never feared his government "until now." 

Molen described the theme of the upcoming film, "America," as a look at what the world could have looked like if America hadn't existed.

"America" is set to be released sometime around July 4 this year.
