A screaming man — possibly upset about the government shutdown — grabbed onto U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy of Wisconsin as he walked to the Longworth House Office Building Wednesday night, Roll Call reports
Duffy was unhurt and declined to give details about the assault.
A "minor incident happened last night as the congressman was walking to the Capitol for final votes,” Duffy's spokeswoman Cassie Smedile said. “A random individual, unknown to the congressman, began screaming at him and grabbed his arm.
"Mr. Duffy was unharmed," she said. "He reported the incident in compliance with House security procedures.
"Congressman Duffy has requested no further action be taken and there will be no further comment on the matter at this time.”
Roll Call was told by sources that the attack may have stemmed from the man's frustration over the federal government shutdown.
Capitol Police are investigating the incident as an assault. No arrests have been made.
Duffy, 41, is a two-term congressman whose sprawling 7th District covers much of the north west section of Wisconsin. Before his election, he was a district attorney and gained fame as a member of the cast of the reality show "The Real World."
