Carlos Perez, a leading figure in the Cuban-American community, tells Newsmax that "no two human beings in the world" hate the United States more than Fidel and Raul Castro.

Perez also said he opposes amnesty for illegal aliens in the U.S., and said the Cuban government is more interested in economic aid from America than a lifting of the trade embargo against the island nation.

Perez, a radio and TV host in Miami and a successful businessman, was honored publicly by President Ronald Reagan as an example to immigrants of the opportunities that America affords.

He is the editor of a new book, "Know the United States of America," published by Citizens for Democracy, a non-profit organization he founded.

Newsmax.TV's Ashley Martella asked Perez what he hopes to accomplish with the book.

"The purpose of the book is to eliminate, diminish, all the lies and distortions about the United States of America," Perez said.

"I have traveled quite a lot through Latin America, Europe, and I have found such a degree of distortions, lies, and even envy about the United States.

"We decided, mostly Cuban-Americans based on our experience of 40, 50, 60 years here in this country, to publish a book that projects the real objective truth about this nation. I certainly hope it will be seen in Latin America, Europe and all over."

What are those distortions and lies and who is responsible for them? Martella asked.

"Lie number one, the United States owes its economic development to the exploitation of Latin American countries," Perez responded.

"We know that is the biggest lie of them all, because from an economical point of view, the United States benefits from a country where the economy, the international trade is similar…

"But [that has been] the communist propaganda, reinforced by the Castros. The Castros have spent a lot of money devising propaganda against the United States. That is the reason there is so much misconception, so much misunderstanding, about what this country stands for."

Martella asked if Perez favors amnesty for illegal aliens in the U.S.

"Amnesty is no good," Perez declared.

"The opportunity of affording an illegal alien [a chance to become] a citizen, that is a possibility, provided that it takes eight, 10 years, providing he doesn't have any criminal problems.

"We cannot allow illegal immigration. We cannot allow a lack of systematic entry into this country. Everything has to be orderly. Everything has to be provided with respect to the law."

Martella asked Perez, an American citizen originally from Cuba, about Fidel and Raul Castro and their communist government.

"There are no two human beings in the whole world that hate the United States more than Fidel and Raul Castro," Perez said.

"It is something deep in their mind, in their soul. They hate the United States.

"These people have created a system that transformed a nation into a farm, destroyed completely a whole nation. At the same time they have been training guerillas in Latin America, training guerillas in Africa.

"They do not know how to manage a nation. They do not know how to administer. But they are good at espionage and they are good at propaganda."

Martella asked Perez how he feels about the ongoing American trade embargo against Cuba.

"What Castro is looking at is not the trade embargo," Perez told Newsmax.

"Castro is looking for economic help from the United States. And there is no way the Cuban people can benefit from that situation, because the state controls every activity."

Martella asked if Cuban-Americans' support for Barack Obama in the last election means that they are turning away from their traditional favorites, the Republicans.

"I think the Cuban-Americans remain Republican," Perez said. "What happened in the last election is that John McCain, in some ways, somehow, did not represent the true conservatives."

He pointed out that three Cuban-American members of the House all won re-election easily, and said Hispanics in general are more conservative than Democrats.

Perez's book is currently available only in Spanish, but an English version is forthcoming. Information about the book can be found at the Web site www.knowtheunitedstates.com.
