Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain says that if he was the party’s nominee, he would probably have a “substantial lead” on President Barack Obama by now.

“The reason is quite simple: I have some depth to my ideas,” the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO said in a speech at the University of Florida, The Gainesville Sun reports. He was speaking at the school as part of his “College Truth Tour.”

As for the man who is the GOP nominee, Cain said Mitt Romney’s recent comment that 47 percent of Americans are dependent on the government is a “non-story” being exaggerated by the media.

Cain isn’t too impressed with the Obama administration. “Stupid people are ruining America, and we've got to take it back,” he said. The former candidate, who gained a lot of notoriety for his 9-9-9 tax plan said, “We've got to stop talking about reforming the tax code. It doesn't work.”

Cain’s plan entails a 9 percent personal income tax, a 9 percent corporate income tax, and a 9 percent national sales tax.

The retired businessman has no interest in a Cabinet position if Romney wins, he says. Cain says he will replace talk radio host Neal Boortz when Boortz retires in January and perhaps work in television too. “If I can't convert [the media], I'm going to join them.”
