WASHINGTON — The White House remains open to raising the debt limit for a few extra days if lawmakers reach a deal and need time for it to clear Congress, a White House official said Sunday.
Republicans and President Barack Obama's Democrats are negotiating an agreement to raise the $14.3 trillion debt limit by Tuesday to avoid a default, but time is running short.
Even with a deal, it may take a few days for procedural roadblocks to be cleared and for a bill to reach Obama's desk for signature.
