Most White House employees make more than the $51,000 national median household income and got raises last year, as well, according to its 2014 salary list released Tuesday.

Federal government records show that 456 people work at the White House, down four from 2013, The Washington Post reported. President Barack Obama has the top salary at $400,000. The maximum salary for staffers is $172,000 annually, according to the newspaper.

Out of the 456 workers, 322 earn more than the average American. In all, the White House gave out $1.3 million in raises in the past year. However, the combined payroll for the White House dropped by about $83,000 from last year, as four fewer workers reported for duty.

The total payroll is just over $37.78 million. Overall, between 2013 and 2014, the White House added 161 employees, but lost even more than that, the Post said. The new employees earn a combined $12.7 million a year, or about $79,000 each annually.

Scheduler Chase Cushman got the biggest pay raise, seeing his salary surge from $68,000 a year to $130,000.

Cody Keenan, the president's speechwriter, has made the most dramatic income change overall, starting in 2009 at $45,000 a year and last year, his salary reached the maximum $172,000, according to the Post.

The lowest-paid employees earn less than the national average, bringing in just $42,000 a year. Still others, like Elyse Cohen, the deputy director of Michelle Obama's Let's Move program and policy adviser Nathaniel Loewentheil do not draw a salary, the Post reported.

While Obama has made pay equity a rallying cry, the federal records show that workers in the White House also have a gender gap when it comes to salaries.

According to the Post, the average man working at the White House earns $88,600, while the average woman earns $78,400, a 13 percent gap.
