Ted Cruz on 'True Blood': Vampire Vote Belongs to Democrats

Sen. Ted Cruz took to social media Tuesday with his take on an HBO "True Blood" episode depicting a bloodbath at a fictitious Cruz fundraiser, saying the undead are a lot like Democrats.

In the scene Sunday on the popular vampire drama, the George W. Bush Presidential Library serves as the site of a Cruz function where the undead show disrespect for Republicans —  and a bloodbath ensues.

On his Facebook page, Cruz wrote:

"Of all the places I never thought to be mentioned, HBO's 'True Blood' vampire show would have to be near the top of the list. Sunday night, they aired a misogynist and profanity-ridden episode where Texas Republicans are murdered attending a 'Ted Cruz fundraiser.'

"Well, I'm sorry to have lost the vampire vote, but am astonished (and amused) that HBO is suggesting that hard-core leftists are blood-sucking fiends."

Quickly thereafter, Cruz tweeted:

The Daily Beast noted that the series "has indeed maintained a politically liberal — and pro-LGBT — streak over the years," and speculated that what may have angered the fiery senator was the use of a crude word for "Republican" by one of the main characters.

Not that Cruz has been bashful about taking on Hollywood liberals. In January, he skewered movie mogul Harvey Weinstein for his plan to make an anti-gun film.

"The market will take care of this, because these left-wing propaganda films that people like Weinstein like to put out, they never sell any tickets," Cruz told Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

A spokesman for "True Blood" writer Craig Chester didn't return calls for comment, the Daily Beast reported.
