TV's 'Blacklist' Fans Blast Cameo 'Insult' to Cruz, West

The hit NBC drama "The Blacklist" has been slammed by angry fans after it aired photo-shopped pictures of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and conservative commentator Allen West being "exploited" by an evil con woman.

The fictional episode, which aired Monday night, showed Madeline Pratt, a jewel thief posing as a socialite, talking closely with tea party leader Cruz over a meal in one photo, and sitting at a dinner table in another photo with West, a former Florida congressman and a Fox News contributor.

West fired off a text message to PostOnPolitics.com on Tuesday, saying: "I guess NBC will do anything for ratings, and I have never seen the show."

The suggestion of the fake photos was that Pratt, played by Jennifer Ehle, was using Cruz and Allen, both Republicans, for her own personal gain while compromising U.S. national security in the process, according to The Wire.

James Spader’s character, Raymond "Red" Reddington, says during the episode, "The Madeline Pratt you know fosters relationships with incredibly powerful people. The one you don’t know exploits those relationships in ways that impact national security."

Cruz staffer Amanda Carpenter immediately lashed out at the drama in a tweet, saying: "Another day, another insult from MSM. NBC shows a 'thief' dining with Ted Cruz, Allen West."

"MSM" usually refers to mainstream media, usually news broadcasts.

Conservative fans of the show, which is watched by about 15 million people a week, were also infuriated by the brief "cameo" of Cruz and West on what the fans perceive as a liberal-leaning network.

One fan, The Wire reported, wrote on "The Blacklist" website, "I cannot believe you used Allen West and Ted Cruz in your episode tonight. I will not watch anymore. It's sad, you were one of my favorites. The most blatant use of a program to smear a great conservative politician."

Kyle Drennen, a news analyst at the Media Research Center, pointed out on his blog that "no pictures are shown of the made-up criminal mastermind rubbing elbows with any real-life Democratic politicians."
