Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani warns that the world is at risk so long as the location of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 remains unknown.

The plane disappeared March 8 during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, and speculation has increasingly focused on the pilot or co-pilot purposely taking the plane off course.

The Malaysian government has requested the FBI help it recover flight simulator files deleted from the computer of Zaharie Ahmad Shah to see whether his elaborate simulator, seen in YouTube videos, was used to test scenarios of flying a plane either into the ocean or to a secret airstrip.

"Clearly, they took this plane. Clearly, there was a nefarious purpose. But we still are no further to figuring out that purpose than we were 12 days ago," Giuliani said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."

Israel has said it fears the plane is in the possession of Iran, which is thought to be trying to build a nuclear weapon. One of its lawmakers and clerics said in January that a nuclear bomb was necessary to "put down Israel."

Even if there's only a 1 percent chance the plane is in Iran, the Israeli government is doing the right thing in preparing for the worst, Giuliani said.

"And we should be doing the same thing to prepare for something happening," he said. The effort would not be wasted, he said, "because someday something will happen, and we'll be better prepared."

"We're at risk here," he said. "As long as we don't know what happened to this plane, we're all at risk that something terrible could happen."
