Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin added her disdain to the growing voices against the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, saying that the widespread criticism erupted because the Obama administration has "gotten away for far too long with your attitude of 'we know best, so go back to sleep, ye little drudges.'"

"You've gotten away with lying, and you’re trying to get away with lying again with talking points the liberals are parroting ad nauseam about 'never leaving an American behind,'" the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate said on her Facebook page. "You lie. You’ve left Americans behind."

Attacks on the release grew stronger Thursday amid reports that President Barack Obama was repeatedly advised by top military and intelligence officials not swap Taliban prisoners for Bergdahl, who was released after five years in captivity.

The exchange
, which occurred Saturday, freed five senior Afghan detainees from the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay. They included Afghanistan's deputy defense minister under Taliban rule and others who played major roles in the regime shielded those behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Lawmakers, both Republican and Democrat, attacked the president for not notifying Congress 30 days before the release and for "negotiating with terrorists."

For the second time this week, Obama defended his decision, insisting Thursday that "absolutely makes no apologies" for seeking Bergdahl's release.

Bergdahl, 28, who walked away from his post in 2009 without a weapon, has since come under fire as a deserter who should be held accountable for his actions. Troops who served with the sergeant have expressed anger and resentment, charging that as many as six soldiers may have died while looking for him.

He is being treated at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany and eventually is expected to be transported to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Referring to the president as "Barack Hussein Obama," Palin charged that even his own Democratic base is rising up against the swap because he "underestimated the wisdom of the people, the valor of our vets, the patriotic pride of military families, and the moral courage of our servicemen.

"You are shocked that our collective jaw dropped," she said.

Palin added that charged that "Team Obama" was "blindsided" and did not expect the backlash that has left them "clueless" — especially since "too few in that elitist bubble have ever served honorably in uniform."

"You freed terrorists who were captured for a reason," she continued. "Our brave ones sacrificed blood and treasure to keep America safe by doing what you send them into war zones to do — to get the bad guys off the street. You just undid that."

"The icing on this devil’s food cake is that you did it for an anti-American deserter whose actions have created even more harm for his comrades and former countrymen."
