Pakistan Taliban Say They Made CIA Attack

Friday, 01 Jan 2010 11:26 AM

MIR ALI, Pakistan -- The Pakistani Taliban claim they used a turncoat CIA operative to carry out a suicide bombing that killed seven American CIA employees in Afghanistan. They say it was revenge for a top militant leader's death in a U.S. missile strike.

The announcement Friday was nearly impossible to independently verify because it involves covert operations and a dangerous region. It is unusual for the Pakistani Taliban to claim credit for an attack in Afghanistan, and the proclamation followed indications the Afghan Taliban may have been involved in the attack.

The suicide bomber struck the CIA's operation at Camp Chaman in eastern Khost province on Wednesday.

The Pakistani Taliban say they wanted to damage the CIA's ability to launch missile strikes in Pakistan.
