Soros Group, Federal Agency Help Inmate Enrollment in Obamacare

George Soros and the Obama administration are donating to a Chicago-based nonprofit group that is working to enroll prison inmates into insurance policies under Obamacare.

Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC) has set up enrollment programs at Chicago's Cook County Jail. Six other states and counties have done the same in an effort to get the federal government to pay for covering inmates, The Daily Caller reported.

"A lot of states will come to this, because state corrections budgets are huge, and county jail budgets are huge," TASC spokeswoman Maureen McDonnell told the Caller.

The group receives funding from Open Society Foundations, a group founded by Soros, and the U.S. Health and Human Services Department. Cook County, the city of Chicago, and the Illinois Department of Corrections, Department of Human Services, and Department of Children and Family Services are also donors to the organization.

Open Society began donating money to the group in 2012 "to conduct an inventory and analysis of community-based alternative approaches to punitive drug policies and law enforcement at the 'front end' of the criminal adjudication process."

The Caller reported that Lisa Feldman Braude, who works as an Obamacare implementation consultant, used to serve as director of research and policy for TASC. In 2012, Braude worked for Open Society, managing the inventory of clinical sentencing diversion programs.

The Illinois Department of Corrections is working to get Medicaid coverage for prisoners when they are hospitalized for at least 24 hours.
