A Fact Checker column in The Washington Post has pushed back on President Barack Obama's ongoing assertions that the GOP has "blocked every serious idea to strengthen the middle class."

Not true, according to the Post, which handed the president three "Pinocchios" for claiming that Republicans in Washington were thwarting reforms that would help most Americans improve their lives in spite of a stagnate economy that continues to plague his presidency.

Obama wrongly claimed three times that the GOP was to blame, the Post noted, starting in late June at a speech in Minnesota, then repeating the notion on July 1, followed by another mention in a speech July 12.

"We make no judgment on which side has the surplus of 'serious ideas,' but the president is engaging in rhetorical overkill," the Post's Glenn Kessler wrote in a Fact Checker column published Tuesday.

"Certainly this congressional session has resulted in few major laws. Perhaps he could make a case that Republicans have blocked many bills that he has sought — or even that his most prized initiatives have been stymied," Kessler wrote.

As the midterm election cycle ramps up, the president has taken his GOP opponents to task on nearly every issue, RedState.com said.

As recently as last week, he blamed Republicans for the U.S. southern border crisis that has seen a surge of more than 55,000 migrants from Central America through Mexico as he seeks a $3.8 billion budget supplement request from Congress to fund the influx, The Daily Caller reported.

He charged that Republicans had impeded immigration reforms.
